Langa Air Approved as an Air Force Initial Flight Training Facility

Langa Air, a flight school based at St. Louis Regional Airport, has been approved as an Air Force introductory flight training provider. The program developed by the Air Force is designed to introduce active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve Officers and ROTC cadets, who are candidates for Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training or Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training, the basics of aviation and navigation before attending the Air Force pilot and navigation schools.

"We are very excited about being approved," said Scott Langa, president. Upon approval, Langa Air immediately enrolled 3 students in the program, 2 pilots and 1 navigator. The three students are based at Scott Air Force Base and have 3 months to complete their training.

Not only is the program designed to introduce the candidates to flight, but it also serves as a screening program. Candidates who do not meet certain milestones may be eliminated from the Air Force flight training program. "We have a very regimented, systematic approach to flight training which works very well for these candidates," said Langa, "as an example, the pilot candidates have only three months to complete their training. Through our one-on-one instruction and use of computer based instruction programs, we can easily accommodate this requirement."

Langa Air will celebrate its 14th year in business at St. Louis Regional Airport in November. In addition to flight training, Langa Air provides aircraft maintenance and avionics services, and fuel sales. They currently employ 30 people.
